Pole barns engineered for the Pacific Northwest.
Shops, equipment storage, hobby spaces, horse barns, hangars, RV storage. The most cost-effective way to add large covered structures to a property, built to the same standards we apply to a custom home.
What pole barn (post-frame) construction actually is.
Pole barn construction, more accurately called post-frame construction, is a building method that uses large engineered posts set in or on the ground as the primary structural support, instead of the foundation-plus-stud-wall system used in conventional construction. The posts carry the roof and wall loads directly.
Wider clear spans with fewer interior columns. Lower cost per square foot than stud-frame at scale. Faster build time. Flexible interior layout. Done correctly, it's as durable as conventional construction for the appropriate use case.

Pole barns we build
- Workshops. Insulated, heated, finished interior with concrete slab, electrical service, lighting, and roll-up or hinged shop doors. Often with a small office or break area
- Equipment and RV storage. Tall clear-height structures with extra-large doors, often unheated or partially conditioned
- Horse barns. Stall barns, run-in shelters, hay storage, tack rooms, indoor riding arenas. Engineered for the loads and ventilation that equine use requires
- Hobby and toy storage. Boat, classic-car, motorcycle, ATV, and gear storage with the layout, doors, and lighting that match the use
- Farm and ag buildings. General-purpose storage, livestock shelter, hay and equipment barns
- Hangar-style residential outbuildings. Larger personal-use buildings for shop, storage, and sometimes apartment space
Site considerations for the Portland metro
- Soil and drainage. Our region has clay-heavy soil that holds water. Footings, slab prep, and site drainage have to be designed for our conditions. Pole barns without proper drainage end up with seasonal flooding
- Setbacks and lot coverage. Rules vary widely. Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas counties all have their own rules, distinct from city jurisdictions. We check before designing
- Wind and snow loads. Engineering matches the location. Higher elevation or exposed-ridge properties need stronger structures than valley sites
- Access for utilities. Electrical service to an outbuilding is often the biggest unplanned expense. We scope it during the consultation
- Tree and wetland considerations. Many properties have protected trees or wetlands that restrict where structures can go. We flag these in the site review
